Stress Reduction for Teens through Mindfulness (Class for Teens ONLY!)
This class is for tweens & teens only. If you are an adult interested in this topic, please click here to learn about our SRTM teacher training!
We’ve all experienced increased levels of stress over the last three years. Now, imagine being a teenager living through the fear and isolation of a pandemic, on top of all of the uncertainties, hormonal changes, and daily stressors that come with adolescence. There’s never been a better time for your teen to learn the benefits of mindfulness to create more connection, calm and centered thoughts.
Today’s teens have lost many important milestones in their lives, from school and in-person learning alongside their peers, to sports, dances, and graduations. They’ve been isolated from friends and extended family, turning more and more to their phones as a means for socialization.
But there’s hope. A mindfulness practice can help teens during these times of stress and anxiety, giving them tools to uplift their mood, create inner calm, and increase their focus.
In her recent blog post, Ann Biese talks about the silver linings that many teens have experienced this past year, from connecting with their family at home, to getting more sleep because of virtual learning.
- Greater empathy
- Ability to adapt to change
- Healthy eating habits
- Reduce anxiety
- Deeper sleep
- Increase resilience
What will Mindfulness do for you anyway?
You are probably already familiar with the term mindfulness and the great news is that developing a mindfulness lifestyle will help you respond better anytime you are experiencing stress.
How will this program help me?
Being mindful can help you step back, be connected, and come back to a centered place of calm. Mindfulness is truly a valuable skill that will serve you now and always.
Do I really have time for working on mindfulness?
Mindfulness can make a big difference in just a few minutes a day. You will be forming life-changing habits that help you reduce stress and anxiety, that can help your mood and increase your focus and support you your whole life.
Where Do I Begin?
There is no right or wrong way to begin and we will help you through by teaching you exercises that can be used simply anytime in your day. With one month of daily practice, you can find a regular habit and the goal is to live more mindfully and fully present at all times using the exercises we do together as a starting point. Your mindfulness practices will help train your brain and give you the benefits to shift into a more calming, centered, and connected state of being.

EFT for Educators
Join Ann Biese, creator of ChildLight’s EFT & Tapping Workshop, for a class designed just for educators! Ann will teach you how to personally reduce stress through the Emotional Freedom Technique, which involves tapping on acupuncture points that work within the meridians of the body. She will also provide tools and techniques to use with your students in the classroom.
This four-week series is a self-care class for educators. Each class is only 30 minutes long and is similar to attending a yoga class however the focus is on EFT.
The live session in May is an 8-hour training where you learn all about the How, What, Where, When and Why of EFT and how to teach it to other people.

“I love this class! Every week I look forward to coming and just taking some time to relax and forget about all the stressful things in life. Annie makes it so easy to follow what she is doing and making sure she gives an explanation as to what every move will do to help stretch out our bodies and release all the tension we have. The class is always different every week depending on the different parts of the body that most of us need to stretch and I love that she always asks what’s bothering us so we can make that one of the target practices for the night. I would recommend this class to any pregnant women out there. The most rewarding thing about this class is 1. that you get to meet so many woman who know exactly how you feel when it comes to pregnancy. it is so important to build relationships with people, but it is nice to have others to relate too. and 2. just being able to take time for myself to relax my mind and body.” ~ T. Fiore
“Prenatal yoga is amazing and I am so glad I began attending! It is a much needed break from my crazy life, and I leave feeling so refreshed and calm. It stays with me for the next few days, and physically I never feel better.” ~ Heather H.

Baby Yoga
Baby Yoga is a wonderful experience that nurtures the parent-child connection. Classes will focus on movements that are beneficial for babies, along with some postures for parents. Through gentle guided movement, massage, and song, parents will bond with their infant while encouraging emotional and physical development. No prior yoga experience is required.
Guided group discussions will lead to a deeper understanding of infant development while building a supportive community. Baby Yoga classes are a safe place to share and connect with other new parents.
For the best experience, we suggest babies begin this class anytime after 6 weeks postpartum and may continue until they begin crawling.
Benefits for Baby:
- Physical stimulation aids in the development of the brain and nervous system
- Promotes bonding and social stimulation
- Poses and gentle stretches aid in digestion, constipation and help relieve gas
- Physical movement helps promote longer sleep stretches
Benefits for Parents:
- Gentle yoga stretches help relieve neck, shoulder and back pain, common to new parents
- Gentle abdominal and pelvic floor strengthening that is safe and effective for the postpartum period
- Learn fun songs and ways to interact and bond with baby
- Social interaction with other women at the same life stage
Please bring a baby blanket and a small toy. Dress yourself and baby comfortably for gentle movement.

Little Family Yoga
“I wanted to share that Olivia was completely out of sorts this morning from being so overtired and recovered so quickly after practicing yoga. Her morning afterwards was so much better! She still remembers a lot from her yoga classes. I actually don’t know what I would do some days without yoga!:) Thanks for being such a driving force for children’s yoga…it’s so important for them to have it in their lives!! Take care, Rachel”
Why session based classes for this age group, versus drop-in?
We engage toddlers/preschoolers in yoga practice in ways that are meaningful, appropriate, and inviting to them! This means our classes will look quite different from an adult yoga class (no experience necessary!) as we regularly incorporate music, creative movement, props, stories, games, etc. Toddlers/Preschoolers THRIVE on repetition, familiarity, and predictability and to honor this we unfortunately do not offer a drop-in option for the Tot or Little Family classes. The session-based classes provide children with the opportunity they need to become familiar with the instructor, the group, and the routine established in class. This truly makes a difference in the atmosphere of the class and foster’s children’s confidence, participation, and overall well-being. If you find after a few classes that it’s truly not a good fit for your family, please talk to the instructor or the office and we’ll gladly work with you. We strive to make our young yogi’s practice fulfilling for them!
